I remember there was an option to create new contacts (or add a number to an existing contact) in Messages by hitting the 'i' button in the corner and then hitting the phone number. When I do that now, I get taken to a strangely blank screen with 'Edit' in the corner, which takes me to a blank contact. Has this functionality gone away or moved to another location?

Hmm still works for me.

Try tapping on the contact number itself from messages.

For me when I press the “i” I can still select the number from there though.

Maybe try doing a reset/restart?

I’m on ios12 but it still works for me. Hit the number, then the info icon, then the arrow.

A reset didn't initially help but all of a sudden started working today.

On a separate note, does iOS 12 allow the ability to select the contacts account for any given contact without having to change the 'Default Account' in the "Contacts" part of Settings? This is easily done for calendar events but not sure why the same functionality doesn't yet exist or contacts.
