Scum bag Apple on full display.
The company is going in the wrong direction. Everything they have been doing lately is a net negative to customers.

A $2k laptop in 2024 should not have a display limitation like the MacBook Pro had.
Loads of companies lock things out in software.. Everyone does it to an extent..

Car makers limit engine performance

Computer makers disable cores

Apple gave the specs on release, and thats the deal. Thats the promise, and people looked at those specs and bought it. It wasnt miss sold in any way.

Proofs that Apple is restricting features intentionally. Stagemanager 3.0.

No. It's proof they hadn't developed a way to utilise a MacBook in clamshell mode with display off to drive two external monitors. Now they have done the work, they are rolling it to other MacBooks capable of taking advantage of this technological breakthrough.

My point is that Apple used to be a magical company. Every product release had an aura to it. Accessories were more fun..they had awesome keynotes. Now , I’d even go as far as saying Samsung and Microsoft have caught up with them and they’re too arrogant to realize it. They nickel and dime their customers like they always have except now the magic is floating away.

Change is needed.

I don't see how this really changes anything. The M chips could always support "two displays" (see: Mac Mini). Just like the laptops supported "two displays" - the internal one and an external.

This just enables the ability for the second display to NOT be the built-in one. Nice to have, lame they didn't do it years ago, but it's not like thye've unlocked some massive new hardware capability that they were holding back just for product differentiation.

He didn't say it was mis-sold or falsely advertised, just that this feature should've been included from the start.

What was the point of locking out this feature if it was always going to be enabled in an update eventually?

Was there some kind of software hurdle they recently overcame? Or did they decide enabling this would increase sales of the M3 Air, and they would then have to enable it on the Pro as well to justify the difference in price?
