Im running my powerbook and doing basic use when i got an error message prompt up disabeling the computer that told me to hold the power button down for several seconds to restart. When i restarted it, the machine got held up at start up.

I have never seen this before, does anyone know why this happened?

You just experienced a kernel panic, which are rare, but do occur from time to time. If it isn't a regular occurrence, I wouldn't get to concerned about it.

If it does become regular, then let us know. I'm assuming you're back up and running now?

It's a kernel panic. If your machine behaves more or less normally going forward, you can probably safely ignore it as a one-off event. But if it happens again, you may have a problem. Then it's time to see if you can reproduce it or track down what's causing it.
