dont forget that although you technically can burn HD dvds, HD compatible dvd players are just now hitting the market, and most consumers will not own one for a few years. The HD dvds you can burn, would only be viewable on a computer, or on a new HD DVD player, so you would limit the amount of exposure you would get.

If you're editing simple 720 by 480 miniDv video footage with iMovie then an iMac is going to be ok. You won't get into trouble until you go higher resolution or start doing compositing and using filters. If you start compositing with green screen or playing with multiple layers and photoshop files or filter effects for color correction, etc. Then your render times are going to go through the roof. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to tweak a composite and then having to wait 30 minutes to see the results. Then edit some more and wait for the render again. When you get into that territory, your going to wish you had a Quad...or at minimum a Dual with lots of ram. Forget about HD unless you have the money to spend.

Good luck, video is fun. If you get the bug, it will get expensive quick.
