Hello,

Is Mac Mini 2018 compatible with DisplayPort 1.4 using USB-C to DP1.4 cable?

Right now, I'm using a USB-C to DP1.2 cable and it works without any problem at 1440p@120Hz 10-bit.

But I'd like to test if I could get 1440p@144Hz 10-bit with newer USB-C to DP1.4 cables or if the computer's limit is DisplayPort 1.2.

Greetings.

Mac mini 2018 Intel iGPU is limited to DisplayPort 1.2 (HBR2 link rate). You need an eGPU if you want HBR3 link rate.

2560x1440 144Hz requires a pixel clock of ≈604 MHz using CVT-RB timing. HBR2 link rate pixel clock limit for 10bpc is 576MHz. For 8bpc, the limit is 720MHz but I would have to do some tests to verify the Mac mini's limit.

I find that the igpu in the macmini's something to be desired, especially if you need raw gpu power to play games in pc mode. That is why I use a egpu with a good video card that can handle most of todays games and having a separate PSU to run it avoids hiccups.
