Mac mini - made in 2000, sold as new in 2010???

sorry but i guess you got a bit mixed up, what you got in front of you is a cube if its build in 2000

if you mean this as a joke then it is a good one.
i have mac mini bought it 2 weeks ago. its serial number is H0014.... and so on. Using all sorts of websites, this serial implies year of manufacturing to be 2000.
hence the whole reason for the post
yes but what is it? i know that no mac minis before 2005 so why does my serial say H00.
do mac minis use a different system of serials?
Apple recently changed the serial number format for several machines. Maybe the mini is now included as well.

Ah the Cube! In the top three Apple designs ever along with the Powermac G4, and the iMac g4. With the Powermac G5 and Mac Pro a close 4th.

you get a quiet nice casemod for the mini that gives at least a bit of the look of the g4 cube , while not exactly , still a nice mod and cheap too
and the mini runs cooler in it too
I don't know where the H0 manufacturing location is, but 014 tells me it was built in week 14 of 2010.
My iMac purchased last month is:
VM009xxxxxx
Letters stand for FACTORY: (VM) in my case is Czech.
Next Figure is YEAR OF PRODUCTION: 0 (ZERO) stand for 2010.
Next TWO Figures are the WEEK OF PRODUCTION: 09 (Week 9)
So, in your case:
WEEK 01 of the YEAR 2010.

Don't worry. Its just the new serial number formats confuse these serial number sites into thinking its 20000. I had the same issue with 2 of my iPhone 3GS. My mom's new MBP 13 inch April 2010 2.4GHz is confusing the sites thinking its 2000.

Off topic with your question but aligned with the other posters, I LOVE the old Apple CUBE! I want it to come back, its awesome, im on eBay as I type looking for one!

Indeed the serial number is NOT the new format, since (according to the new info) the 4th character would have to be a letter.
With Apple's old 11 character serial numbers, you'll always get this "anomaly" every ten year cycle since only one number designated the year. Hence a zero can designate 1990, 2000 or 2010. It's a simple matter of looking at the specs of the machine to determine which decade since the longest a model ever sold for was 2 years IIRC.
Count the number of characters in the serial number. If it's 11, it's the old method. If it's 12, it's the new method.
