hi there,

my dual 1.25 g4 arrives on monday, it is my first mac :)

i am pretty sure it comes with osx jaguar and os9, i have panther here now and would like to install this when it comes...

i have been told that i wont need to use os9 either..

what i want to know is if there are any tutorials or if anyone here can run through how to do a clean install on a mac..

i have vast experiance on this sort of thing on a pc but not on a mac...

can i install panther without the need for os9? do i need os9 at all?

many thanks

Ha ha haaa!
Welcome to the Mac side. :)

If you have no use for OS 9, (good for running Classic apps, basically), and you want to install Panther, go ahead and just insert the Panther CD, double-click on the install icon, it will prompt you to reboot, then go through the installation process. I think one of the options is something like "format and install" which should wipe the drive and install Panther from scratch. Sounds like what you're wanting to do.

One thing you might want to check on first, though, is any free 3rd party programs that came bundled with your computer, you might want to back up first before you wipe your disk so you can reinstall them afterwards.
