Awesome! Do you already have the modified El Capitan installer for the older (32-bit versions) saved on the USB drive so that no further modding is necessary? Just hold down the Options key and you're good to go?

Always nice to see fully useable and functioning OS's on older hardware. Always wanted to get a 1,1/2,1 to tinker with... especially now that LightBulbFun is working on a update to use Wolfdale/Harpertown CPUs for this version of the Mac Pro

Yes I just plug the USB key (rear of the Mac Pro) and then I hold down the option key ! The OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 works perfectly !

Oh , nice! I got El Cap to work on my old x1900 graphics card but not my ati 5770. I see you got the 5770 to work, congrats ! I feel like mine is defective or just not the apple version as seller claimed to be. Any ideas why ?

ADDED INFORMATION :

I've changed my graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5770 (1 GB) for another one which is more powerful, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (4 GB). Just see the picture above.
And my USB key including Boot Mac OS X EL Capitan 10.11.6 still works perfectly after one year of using (Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 14.3, Adobe Photoshop CC ...).
The system is very stable.
Don't hesitate to ask me for a USB key Boot Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 to install El Capitan on a Mac Pro 1.1 or 2.1 (2006-2007).

You should know for sure wether or not its the apple version simply by the appearence of the 5770. I recently struck gold on a genuine 5870 mac edition, $20 on craigslist. The card should have the back plate that turns into a support bracket, and the I/O should be 2xMini display port and x1 DVI.

And if anyone wants a free 1,1->2,1 to tinker with, PM me... Pick-up in Denver only, and no, I will not ship, nor part it out... working, loaded.

Hello, as a newbie, just want to respond with my experience and have a questions. I just upgraded (today) my Mac Pro 2006, 1,1 to El Capitan 10.11,6 with Pikify version 14. I installed a 240GB SSD drive and made it the target drive for the update to El Capitan. I have only upgraded the RAM to 16GB but not upgraded the firmware to 2,1 or upgraded the standard graphics card (yet). It is working great except for some flickering of certain apps and screens, like Google Chrome.
I have ordered a Mac ATI 5770 card and will arrive this week.
Is there anything else I should be doing for this to continue to work great and not be affected by any security updates, etc?

Also, I have Xeon 5150 processors, so should I upgrade to 5355 quad core or bite the bullet and go to 5365? Only doing standard apps and not heavy duty video editing. thanks!
