Noticed that OWC is charging $299 for the Intel Xeon V2 3.0 10 core USED while prices on ebay vary from $25-$110

My problem is some of them are different shapes and I want to make sure I get the cheapest (around $30-$80) yet COMPATIBLE version for my Trash Can Nuclear Reactor Mac Pro. Id hate to spend 2 hours taking it apart and 2 hours putting it back only to realize i bought an incompatible CPU

Here is the one i was told to get Xeon E5-2690 v2 Processor

If someone can post a link to it that would be awesome. Id rather save $200+ if i can

There should not be any differently shaped E5 v2 compared to each other, at least I cant find any on ebay listings:

Just don't buy a QS or ES ones and you are better off with it. Then, you can just hope for an honest seller.
Good Luck.

early-2013 Mac Pro only works with IvyBridge V2 Xeons, won't work with the older V1 or the newer V3 (and newer ones).

Just be sure that you found a V2 Xeon. The full list of supported processors is listed on the first post below.

All IvyBridge Xeons V2 have the exact same socket FCLGA2011, while V3 have a different socket, FCLGA2011-3, the change was needed to support DDR4.

These are Intel factories that assembly and test the dies, there are several.

Thank you sir. I seem to have found a decent priced one. If you wouldnt mind checking it over before I purchase, that would be great. I thank you! :)

Specs match, should work fine with a MacPro6,1.

Go with any E5-2690 V2 or 2697 V2, just make sure it is from a reliable seller and if you can test it in a server or workstation before installing it in you mac pro that would help to avoid confusion/no boot etc...

why not get the 12 core 2.7 setup?
It seems to be the fastest setup for the 2013 mac pro even though the 10 core is at 3.0 GHZ.

the 2013 Mac Pro only came with the 8 core version of the 3.0GHZ. Can you run the 10 core version?

the 12 core has a bigger cache on the chip and the multi core scores are definitely higher.

Maybe the 3.0 10 core might have a slightly higher single core score. BUT most software today is engineered for multi core. So if you can afford it, the 12 core is a better CPU.

Just get the E5 2697V2 - it’s an excellent processor.

I got mine from Amazon and did the upgrade from 2.4ghz 12 core to the 2.7 **very carefully** following the instructions.

The 10 core also works.
