MP 1,1-5,1 Mac Pro 3,1, A1186, EMC2133 - Won't boot-up

Hi Guys, picked up these 3 machines last night.
2 X 3,1
1 x G5

One of the 3,1 A1186, EMC2133 is not moving from grey screen.
Boots ok, I can select drive by pressing Option key. However it hands on grey boot screen.
Won't go any further.

I've removed the memory and just kept two banks as having one in, it won't boot, light flashes.

The 7300GT GPU is showing boot screen, however when I tried a GT120, got no picture.

Nothing else inside, bare Mac.

Any ideas what to do?

Discovered the Mac Pro is 1,1 not 3,1.

So max OS is Lion.

with a little fiddling and a more recent gpu like a Radeon 5770 you can run El Cap on the 1.1

Your cMPs 1,1 works fine.
They just need some OS to be installed.

Your cMPs 1,1 works fine.
They just need some OS to be installed.

Managed to get it updated to El-Capitan very easily, using a simple method.

All working fine now.

Next step is upgrade it's firmware and SMC to 2,1.
Then replace the CPUs if they are not Xeon X5355 or X5365 yet.

Is it worth upgrading to Xeon X5355 or X5365?

Will this install El Capitan or still need to do the hack?

You already has El Capitan running. Still need the hack.
For CPUs, if 20$-25$ for a pair of quad-core X5355 are too much for your fun budget, then probably double the cores count on your CPUs don't worth that much.
Next steps are RAM, SSD, a better graphic card.

Where I am two CPU's are over $100? Can't find them cheaper.
It has 24MB RAM which is enough for now.

Have ordered SSD.
And GT120 or might go for ATI Radeon 4XXX or 5XXX.

What do you need bootscreen for? You already have the 7300GT.
Switching boot drive can be done from "System Preference"
