I got a white macbook 13.3 days ago from a friend, I messed up with some files in the system so I think I need to re-install the system.

I don't have the original dvds, so I tried my friend's snow leopard and leopard and they didn't work (this software can't be installed on this machine)

the last OS on the machine was snow leopard, and the original one was tiger.

do i have to install tiger first then update it? and are there any links for a bootable image for tiger?

The grey install disks that come with Macs are model-specific and will not work on other models. You can buy a retail copy of Snow Leopard, or you can order replacement install disks for your Mac by calling Apple.

Thanks

So if I got a retail version of snow leopard will it work? or do I have to get a tiger?
