Most folks probably have not because they don't want to void their warranty.
Concerning the break-in period for thermal paste; I've always heard it takes several hours of use to fully settle in and become most effective at transferring heat between your CPU and heatsink. If you've had and used your MacBook for more than a couple of weeks I'd say the thermal paste on it is as "broken-in" as it is going to get.
