I just had someone from another forum I'm on tell me that his MacBook is made by Toshiba. Any truth to that?

And FWIW, the MacBook is made by Toshiba. Or at least the one I bought a few months ago was.

I know they make hard drives and batteries, etc., but do they make the whole thing? That seems a bit off the wall.

No, they don't. Toshiba doesn't make laptops. I think ASUS makes them (at least they made the iBook according to wikipedia).

Under compatability issues.

Who's making Toshiba's laptops then?

Anyhow, your other point is correct. Apple oversees all of its production and doesn't outsource to other tech companies. They simply buy components and have Chinese workers assemble them. :p

It may very well be that the assembly for Apple and Toshiba is done by the same company in China.
