maybe it won't be a *huge* gap until the apps are all native, but it should be a lot faster, yes.
It is a significant upgrade for the Apple laptop line. That said, the notebook and desktop lines will never be in direct compitition; two machine types designed for two different purposes. Desktops will ALWAYS be quite a bit ahead of laptops in the speed realm simply by virtue of their form factor.
