After upgrading to 10.13, I noticed some odd graphical glitches in Safari and my rMBP (2012) getting quite hot at random times.

Activity Monitor showed fairly average CPU and memory usage so I installed iStat to check out the GPU usage.

Turns out, as soon as I plug in my 24" Cinema Display the discrete GPU kicks in and the memory usage is instantly saturated to nearly 100%. As soon as I unplug it, same apps running, it drops back to the integrated GPU which is using a < 25% of its memory.

Machine's getting a little older and I'm worried about burning it out.

Anyone else having trouble with external displays hammering your GPU in High Sierra?
