Hello,

I own a Qnix 2710LED 27" monitor which I currently use a Dual Link DVI adapter (the $99 dollar type) to get a 2560 x 1440 resolution with my mid 2015 Macbook Pro w/ retina display. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could get the same resolution using an HDMI cable? The monitor supports HDMI and I've done some research but mostly what I hear is that mac's HDMI only supports 1900x1200. Thanks!

This page tells you exactly what you need to know: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856

It says this:

You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with these Mac computers (special adapters might be required):
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013 and later)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013)
  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 and later)
  • iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015)
  • iMac (27-inch, Late 2013 and later)
  • iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015)
  • Mac mini (Late 2014)
  • MacBook Air (Early 2015)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)

And moving a little further on the page it reads:

You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates when you connect them to the built-in HDMI port on your Mac:
  • 3840x2160 at 30 Hz
  • 4096x2160 at 24 Hz (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)

It know it says 4K, but that's even higher than your requirements. So I wouldn't worry about that then. However, I'm not sure at what the refresh rate is when using a 2560x1440 resolution, but I would say it's at least higher than with 3840x2160. And I can't seem to find information about that.

Anyway, hope this answers your question?

yeah good point, I'm just a little worried that it doesn't list 2560x1440 as one of the dimension it supports. You'd think it would, being that 27" iMacs are that resolution... Has anyone tried using a 2015 Macbook Pro retina display's HDMI on a 2560x1440 monitor?

- It's no problem at all. The newer rMBPs use HDMI 1.4, which handles 2560x1440 at 60Hz perfectly fine.

However, there's no guarantee the monitor supports that resolution via HDMI.
EDIT: Scratch that. Anandtech's review mentions HDMI 1.4, if I managed to Google the right monitor.

You're good.
