Hello Apple community, my MacBook pro Retina mid 2012 has been crashing very often recently, without any notice, the screen just becomes black, and I have to hard reboot it.

Could any help to diagnose the issue? Below is the Report I got today:

I had a similar problem a few months back with the same year vintage as you. I had it checked out at the Apple Store and a faulty logic board was the culprit, google this and you'll find this was a common occurrence for this year. Apple quoted me a price for repair which I agreed to, but when returned they told me there was no charge for the repair and replacement of the logic board, even though long past AppleCare policy. I was impressed.

Hey thanks guys for the answers.
I will definitely schedule an appointment with the Apple store, although it is not under AppleCare anymore, hopefully they will be able to do that for free.

I was suspecting an app might be triggering that crash so I reinstalled another version of Microsoft Office, and since then it has been fine. Is anyone able to decrypt the report to see whether it was triggered by a specific App (thanks Treekram for the suggestions, I will look into those two, which I have currently installed) ?

Thanks again!

Notice the handler it calls at the top. /GPUPanic.cpp That would lead me to believe treekram is on the correct path by suggesting the GPU be looked at.

It's not likely to be Microsoft Office that caused the panic in your panic report since it didn't occur in a Microsoft Office thread and there isn't any Office kernel extension that you have loaded (Office probably doesn't use kernel extensions anyway - but I'm not sure about that).

Thanks for all the input!
But I have to say, Macbook has not crashed since I installed the new Office. Little snitch and Radio silence are both still installed and running.
I am still bringing it to an Apple store, will keep updates if any changes.
Thanks!

Perhaps the old office called different GPU function(s). Anyway, glad to hear your machine is working.
