MacBook to Snow Leopard

Can one start a 2009 MacBook w/ Leopard in target mode, connect to a 2010 MacMini w/ Snow Leopard and then:

Install Snow Leopard (as an upgrade) from the Mini using the Mini Snow Leopard disc
THEN
update the MacBook to 10.6.8 with the Combo updater

I know the Mini Snow Leopard disc is machine specific but am thinking the Combo update would recognize the MacBook and correctly install 10.6.8
