Hello all,

I have a MacBook Air 13" from Early 2014. The supported resolution for external displays goes up to 2560x1600.

I connected my new monitor to it, which is a new ultra-wide LG with 2560x1080 resolution. I made sure to buy a Mini Display port to HDMI (4K) adapter that supports these high resolutions. So everything should work correctly.

Yet, I cannot set my new display to any resolution above1920x1080 :(.

How do I proceed? I feel like I have tried anything, even bought another expensive Mini DP - HDMI 4K adapter, still not getting the desired resolution.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Are you sure the 2014 MBA supports your monitor? This apple support document implies that you need a 2015 MBA… https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206587

Sorry, I have a 2013 MBA and haven't used any screens larger than 1920x1200. But Apple went to a new graphics chip 2015.

I think your 2014 MBA has the same chip as my 2013 MBA

But these specs from Apple imply that it would work anyway…

Yes I am sure that my MacBook Air (Early 2014) supports the resolution, as stated here on Apple's site. My MBA does not support 4K, but it does support up to 2560x1600, which is more than I need.

Any help is welcomed.

Yes, I am using the HDMI cable that was included with the new LG monitor, so I think it's safe to assume the HDMI cable can handle the resolution :).

I HAVE GOT IT TO WORK :)

By following the instructions on this YouTube video:

^^ I actually had to create a new User Account on OSX, and follow the instructions. Then it worked on my old account as well. Hope this helps people.
