As I understand that all depends on how Rosetta 2 and the Virtualization Module (which was briefly shown running Linux) will handle these things.

There's no full secure boot chain though, so worst case scenario we have to patch
boot.efi or something.
CatalinaOTAswufix.app (based on @Czo VMMFaker dylib) let to download a full "Big Sur" installer (also on a 2012 Mac or any previously supported Catalina Mac), anyway I advise only to download, but don't try to install it for now.

Does anyone know why the late 2013 imac is not supported with Big Sur
I think the Late 2013 MacBook Pro isn't supported but the website incorrectly states it is (for now).
I think perhaps lack of intel avx2 cpu instruction set, or lack off gpu vram perhaps..
late 2013 iMacs have haswell. I thought they’d be good for a few more updates.

The late 2013 21.5 iMac literally has a more powerful haswell cpu than the 2014 21.5. This is completely arbitrary.
Well, finally game over for my trusty 2012 13" Unibody. Not too optimistic about getting Big Sur running on this, based on the apparent CPU requirements for this update, but hopefully Dosdude can come up with the goods!

@Argyboy there is no confirmation yet that the OS does indeed use AVX in core OS files. It may be like Catalina where it's only used in a few places. We will see shortly.
pkgutil --expand-full and then move the DMG to Contents/SharedSupport/SharedSupport.dmg in the application. Then you can use createinstallmedia as usual. AVX2 is not required for macOS 11 because the Ivy Bridge CPU of the still supported 2013 Mac Pro doesn't have it.
That's good news, thanks. I guess maybe the Intel 4000 graphics might be the sticking point but as I'm no expert, I'll leave it in much more capable hands. Looking forward to seeing how it develops!
im just hoping the whole avx2 thing doesnt cause issues here would b sad for our 2010 and 2012 pros to unofficially end support too

According to the macOS Big Sur 11 Beta Release Notes macOS 11 still has kernel extension or kexts located in the folder /Library/Extensions.
The installer boots, which is encouraging in terms of AVX not being required for core stuff.

Still downloading "Big Sur" OTA installer, estimated time 10 hours very slow, so I guess to retry tomorrow, anyway if booting the kernel still allow SSE4.1 , using "Big Sur" on unsupported Mac is still feasible.
Meanwhile I attach my OTA distribution file where can notice the "Big Sur" supported board-id and machines.

Yes, they do get iOS 14. iPad Air 2 came out in 2014, I still have two in daily use at my house (kids), now that is incredible.
Yeah, I suspect apple is dropping support either for the increased graphics performance or just because it requires too much work to make it work. Although lazyness can be good, in most situations it's just bs and i really hope you guys can make it work and, maybe even more important, it will run properly on my 2012. also, doing some research to 2013 macbook pro's, **** me! 500-650 pounds just for a refurbished one? that's crazy!
