Hello everyone! I've successfully installed Catalina (21.5 inch iMac Mid 2010 - ATI Radeon 4670) using dosdude1 patcher.

Everything works perfectly fine, except for the Photos app, I have no idea of what may be causing this issue, because when I open any kind of image file using the Preview app, it's displayed correctly, but the Photos app is showing some photos with this (very exotic "filter") - couldn't find better way to describe this... :

I tried checking if it wasn't related to the file format (JPEG or HEIC) and apparently it's not the cause, it happens with both of them. Interesting is that videos, and so Live Photos are played correctly.

Photos.app seems to have some kind of detection that will force it to hide "Photos" under the Library section of the sidebar if you're running the OS in Safe Boot, or if the display driver isn't 100% native (I think). This began with 10.15.

Hi, I am also in the same situation. I noticed that the problems start after a few tens of seconds of use.

@MacTobi, thanks! It worked here, but in my case, it was from 8bit to 4bit...

Hi all, one more thing,

Do you have in Photos App the 1º option in "Library" > Photos or yours started in Memories??

So, I decided to run that tool as well. However, I still have issues:

New photos that I import into my computer from my camera SD card look like this. And when I go into edit mode on older photos, they also look like this.

Hi, first time poster here. Just upgraded a late 2009 iMac Intel quad core i7 with 16 gb of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 mb graphics card using dosdude1 patcher to Catalina 10.15.7. Everything is running fine with the exception of the photos app. I am having the same problems with the preview photos pulling up normally but when displaying an individual image that displays photos with some strange filter. I attempted to click on the reddit link, which is no longer active. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Following the instruction by @ASentientBoton on reddit led me to this tool, which I used to force the colordepth to be 8bit, rather than 10bit, which solved my issues. It should solve your issue aswell
Hi Tobi

I just upgraded to Catalina from Mojave using dosdude1's Catalina Patcher. (Used the Mojave Patcher too!) But I, along with other users with an iMac late 2009 11,1 models with the ATI 4850 graphics, was so disappointed when Photos app showed garbage as pointed out by Raphah96 and others. So I'm pleading for help too in resolving this. Seems like all links to resolutions that others have found are now invalid. Think everything else in Catalina is working fine, but I can't live with this so I'm back on Mojave.

Did either of you (and others) get this resolved? I haven't heard anything since my last post last week. Sure would like to know what to do.
