MacOS Mojave Wont Install 'Not Supported Core Storage'

I'm trying to install MacOS Mojave on my late 2014 iMac with SSD and I keep getting the error message:

"This volume is not a supported Core Storage configuration."

Is there anything I can do to get Mojave installed properly? This is very frustrating... I can't believe a google search turns up no help on the subject as well, am I really the only one?

OK So I've booted into the USB drive to install it, and I'm getting the same error... I went into disk utility and clicked First Aid, but it finds nothing wrong with the Macintosh HD.

I never said it didn't?
I was informing him how he can use Fusion in Mojave. You create the APFS Container in diskutil to use "n" volumes.

I'm having the same issue on my iMac 2012, I replaced the original HD with a Samsung Evo 850 SSD.

Any advice would be appreciated !

I am having he same issue as well, which was the home made fusion drive with a Samsung EVO 850 as well.

Same I've been searching online for quite a bit, there is not much information.

Did you try reinstalling the OS? Would reformatting our drives and leaving it non-fusion work?

OP did you change your SSD by any chance? Or is it the original from Apple ? I just wanted to know if you're the same as Lune and I, we had our HDD swapped for an SSD

My HD was swapped out with an SSD. I tried installing a fresh Mojave from USB, but got the same error. I have not tried reformatting the drive, was hoping not to have to go that far...

Sounds like we may not have a choice

It seems we all have the same issue but may have been caused because we swapped hdd to ssd

Did you try to create another partition and fresh install Mojave?

I have not. This is crazy, there are tens of thousands of people who swapped the same SSD out for their iMac HD's. What are they all going to do?

You can add me to the list. I had a 3TB HDD that died on me so I replaced it with a 1TB Samsung EVO 850. I get the same message as you all.

If I have to format, High Sierra will be my last upgrade on this Late 2012 iMac. It's not worth reinstalling everything. That said, could we clone (SuperDuper) the existing system, upgrade and use Migration Assistant to copy the data across?

The following is my setup in case it helps.

I am having the Late 2012 iMac as you. I think Mojave is still supporting the "iMac introduced in late 2012 or later" according the Apple website.


I think I am going to back up everything, and going to try
  1. Split the fusion drive to two different volumes.
  2. Try to install the Mojave from the bootable USB.
  3. If everything is ok, I will try make the fusion drive again ( Not sure it works in Mojave or not)
If I have any news, I will keep you guys update.

Thanks I may try to do the same. I have a late 2012 iMac as well and swapped with a 512 GB Samsung evo 850 ssd.

Please keep us posted. At least we all have the same issue and are trying to work together to resolve it.

Our hardware is definitely supported, but the modifications we did don't seem to be. I am not ready to do a full re-installation myself. I think Mojave might be the last supported version for my hardware so I'd rather stick to High Sierra for another four years and get a new System/OS in 2022. Or this is a bug and I can upgrade.

In case I'm full of it and decide to re-install, I'll let you all know how it goes. ;)

Nope, that's the EFI system partition that all EFI disks are supposed to have per specification.

Trivia: Apple never has officially used the EFI system partition for anything, but they create it per the specification. Other operating systems like Linux will use the EFI partition to store the kernel and bootloader and so on. EFI is actually a sort of "mini-OS" that is contained in the system firmware, and things like bootloaders, utilities, BIOS flashers, etc. are written as EFI applications. Macs basically have the bootloader that can load the OS from an HFS or APFS partition baked into the firmware so it isn't necessary to put the bootloader in the EFI partition.

FAT32 is the specified filesystem for the EFI partition, thus allowing any EFI implementation to be able to read the EFI partition. (Hackintoshers actually use the EFI partition to store the mods/drivers/etc....lol) If you were to dual-boot your Mac with Linux, say, you'd likely be using the EFI partition for Linux's bootloader.

Same problem here. Had tried installing beta earlier, failed with this error, figured it would be fixed by official release.
