Just another update. I took the processor board apart only to find a ton of dust (well, it looked more like soil; enough to bury a corpse) and that the thermal past on the northbridge processor had moved to greener pastures. I Cleaned everything, repasted everything and put it back together. So far so good. No freezes, no KPs. Of course maybe it's too early to tell I've only been running it for 2 or 3 hours, pushing the processor though to its limits with the yes test and geekbench. Fingers crossed.

PS. Just to be on the safe side I pumped up the fans with macs fan control
