Mail / Gmail not working from time to time

Hey,

Gmail on my iPad doesn't work from time to time. It would tell me that mails couldn't be retrieved because of a server thing. Then hours later, everything works again normally.

Why does this happen? Does anyone know? It's extremely annoying. I was wondering if it may have something to do with Google settings? I have all the security stuff activated and set up.
