I’m trying to help someone with mail on El Capitan (can’t officially update OS further). A few days ago it stopped connecting to incoming imap server but outgoing smtp still works. All the settings are correct. I have tried setting up a new email account in mail preferences>accounts and it won’t even work... says something like it can’t verify name or password. I have also gone to system Preferences App and entered the password under accounts and it also says something like it can‘t verify name or password.
I suspect it is an issue with El Capitan as it occurs with every email I have tried and when I setup the email on High Sierra it works.
Any help would be appreciated. I have tried to find a third party mail app but so far none of them will install on El Capitan and require a newer OS. Does anyone know of a good third party app that supports install on 10.11.6?
