Is it possible to make Safari start maximized instead of windowed? I really find clicking green dot every time I launch Safari frustrating.....

Sure I can.....

Disclaimer: I have read about it nowhere - this was preluded by literally hours of testing various things.

To achieve Safari starting in full-screen ::

1. Quit (or force quit) Safari
2. Go to System Preferences > General;
3. Make sure that Close windows when quitting an app is unchecked; uncheck if needed; close preferences;
4. Open Safari; maximize it (green dot in the left upper corner);
5. Browse internet nornally;

And the most important thing:: when you want to close Safari, do not return to windowed Safari first: just hit Command + Q while in fullscreen mode; This way, when you relaunch Safari, it will start full-screen.
