MBP Apps suddenly quitting

I'm a convert to Macs and just got my MBP this week. I've had a problem with Firefox, Safari, Entourage, Word and Powerpoint in that they suddenly, and with no warning, quit. Firefox lets me restore my sessions but it sometimes quits right away after doing so. The system itself remains fine---just the apps are quiting suddenly.

Any thoughts?

as far as word and ppt, make sure you have the latest version. Also check that the read/write permissions in your apps folder (if that's where they are kept) is correct.

wouldn't hurt to repair disk permissions too.
