How do i get rid of the messages menu bar icon? it stays there if i'm logged in in messages, and even when i am logged out.
I can't find any option to get rid of it in system preferences, messages preferences.
As i watched the other threads i noticed, that nobody else has this icon, so there must be a switch for it.

messages-›preferences-›general-›account status›show status in menubar-› leave that unmarked.

it must be a bug, cause the help is corresponding to your settings.
let's hope the bug will be corrected with the next update.

Alternatively, hold down command and drag it out of the menu. This should work with all Apple icons (not third party ones).
