How to replace the graphics card -
If you are using the iMac 27" late 2009 or 2010 model for games, you might want to upgrade your graphics card to the 6 series of the last 2011 model.

Generally limited to GPUs that Apple Apple supplied with this model iMac, but some people have done things with other GPUs. Standard Apple supplied GPU options were ATI Radeon HD 5670 (512Mb VRAM) or Radeon HD 5750 (1Gb VRAM), neither are Metal GPUs I understand.

Metal support is officially needed for Mojave and above, but DOSDUDE patchers and Opencore Legacy Patcher can bypass this requirement.
I think the 2010 logic board had 3 SATA ports so you can add a second SSD boot drive to experiment with adding a later version of Mac OSX.
