I want to upgrade the GPU of my not working (failed stock GPU) mid 2010 27" iMac.
Ive heard about the Metal Support GPU, but i do not understand what exactly a GPU like that will help me.

Hi,

How to replace the graphics card -

Generally limited to GPUs that Apple Apple supplied with this model iMac, but some people have done things with other GPUs. Standard Apple supplied GPU options were ATI Radeon HD 5670 (512Mb VRAM) or Radeon HD 5750 (1Gb VRAM), neither are Metal GPUs I understand.

Metal supporting iMac 2009 to 2011 GPU upgrades:

Metal support is officially needed for Mojave and above, but DOSDUDE patchers and Opencore Legacy Patcher can bypass this requirement.

I think the 2010 logic board had 3 SATA ports so you can add a second SSD boot drive to experiment with adding a later version of Mac OSX.

Hope this helps.
