I know nothing about mics, but my old PlainTalk won't fit into my PowerBook G4 (pre-optical).
So I want to buy something simple and inexpensive and portable--hopefully just a mic, but if I need a mic and "some gadget" then so be it. I'll then carry my PowerBook to sound sources I want to use for interactive and web projects (studio quality isn't vital, and mono is fine).
It will mostly be sounds close to the mic--like a car door latch or clinking metal. (But since my PowerBook is portable I might also capture some ambient sounds like flowing water or crowds or something.)
Any advice for this kind of thing? I'm thinking maybe a standalone USB mic? (For instance the Samson C01U comes up in searches but usually related to capturing music.)
Thanks in advance!
