Hi, what kind of MIDI keyboards are compatible with iPad? I mean for MUSICAL instrument, not qwerty

Something small, max 2 octaves just to put in notes...How do they connect? Wi-fi or USB?

Sorry if its a n00b question but I am a PC guy;).
TIA

Just about any midi keyboard will work with it. GarageBand might not take advantage of all the features of the keyboard (knobs, etc) but third party apps usually have a midi-learn mode to learn what midi commands the knobs on your keyboard send. The keyboard keys should work just by plugging it into the USB adapter assuming you have a midi to usb adapter or your midi keyboard has a midi usb out.

The only thing to watch for is that some USB midi devices require more power than the ipad can deliver to the USB cable so you might need a powered USB hub to give the keyboard enough amperage for it to work.

For straight MIDI devices that do not have USB midi out I bought a cheap USB to midi adapter that works fine ($6.24 shipped). I bought it about a year and a half ago. You still need an apple USB camera connection kit of course.

Thanks, that's about the size and price...:)

I still need an adapter to go in USB right?
You need the Apple camera kit to use any midi over USB keyboard, and make sure you get the right kit for your iPad (either 30 pin or lightning). The only keyboards that connect directly without needing the camera kit (that I know of anyway) are these:

They are more expensive though. Apple sells them I believe. Also Amazon.
