Friends anyone tried 11.1 on iPad 2 ?

You need to upgrade for security reasons. If it performs badly, buy a new iPad. You should not risk running old software you could lose everything including all your money if hackers get into your accounts.

How much of an actual risk is something like that?

My 128gb mini 2 shows its age running ios 11.2 tbh it runs OK but there are definitely noticeable delays loading apps that arent cache/memory..the keyboard popping up shows noticeable delay as well..browsing websites scrolling there is a delay in content popping up this is in comparison to my iPad pro 9.7. I've turned down motion also as frame shutters are quite prevalent...it's usable but the device is showing its age.

The iPad mini 2 here from work still has iOS 9.3.5 on it and I'm thinking of getting it to the current release.

iOS11 made my Mini almost unusable, unfortunately. Significant OS lag. I regret upgrading.
