I kill all running applications and start an iCloud backup, "immediately" after backup finishes I check the "next backup size" to find out it's somewhere between 450-600Mbytes, and it takes 15 minutes to complete with a 2Mbps upload speed. What has changed so big between two consequitive backups while no apps were running?
