Late 2006 iMac died (Screen not working on late 2006 iMac; July 20, 2023). Took the advice of TheShortTimer and obtained an Early 2008 iMac (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB Memory) with Mac OS 10.5.8 installed. It appears to contain all applications shipped with the machine.
Have Time Machine backup of the Late 2006 iMac, which was running Mac OS 10.7.5, when it died.
Questions:
1. Will Migration Assistant on Mac running OS 10.5.8 restore the Time Machine backup created by the now defunct 2006 Mac running OS 10.7.5?
2. If I erase the 2008 iMac internal hard drive, will Migration Assistant or Time Machine restore all backed up data from the 2006 Mac, including OS 10.7.5, to the erased internal hard drive of the 2008 Mac?
3. The external hard drive with the Time Machine backup files is encrypted. Do I need to decrypt it before restoring the backup files to the Early 2008 iMac?
As always, thanks to this community for your time and advice.
