Multi-channel audio output through HDMI to an unsupported device

Hello,

I recently bought a monoprice HDMI switcher. In the spesifications of the device it's clearly said that it supports surround audio mirroring. My audio/midi setup panel however recognize my device as stereo only and all the other multi-channel options are greyed out.

Is there a way to send Multi-channel audio to an unsupported device via HDMI on OSX?

I'm on El Capitan yet, going to upgrade to Sierra soon.
