Hey guys, I have decided on a computer name for my FIRST Mac, a 12" iBook. For you to fully understand why I'm naming it this, let me first tell you my name is Patrick Stewart, yes just like the actor, and no I'm not related to him as far as I can tell anyway. Let me also say that many vessels have been named this through out history. A british ship in the late 1800s had this name, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier is named this, the first prototype of the space shuttle was named this, and of course the first starship from the United Federation of Planets is named this :) Yes thats right, it will be called...

Enterprise

Have you guys ever named your Macs or PCs? If so what did you name them? Feel free to comment on what you think of my idea.

I named my old Windows PC "desk" for sharing purposes. I also named its workgroup "WORKGROUP." :)

I think officially naming a computer is a little overboard... o_O

Do you greet it in the morning? Hello, Enterprise. And do you woo it to sleep?

well, whenever i put a CD in my mini it blows alot of air, so i always tell it, that it blows good, so i guess an appropriate name would be ''bl0wah''

I see nothing wrong with naming a computer. If the practice is good for ships and pets, why not for computers? For assorted reasons, it may very well be viewed as a frivolous waste of time according to those who judge such things, but we do find a way to tolerate some of the endless threads that appear before our very eyes here.

Let me think ... oh yes: "My Powerbook can kick your iBook's ass."

The name of the game is tolerance and a means for appreciating the attachment for our computers that makes some want to give the personal touch. Most women would be flattered to have their partner name one after them. One cautionary note, however ... do not - under any circumstances - take it to bed with you. :)

I named my computer "Kyles Comp The Best Friggin' Computer in the house yo" so every time my dad checked the network I would rub it in his face :)

I've got a Futurama theme going on..

My Linksys WRT54G is Professor Farnsworth
My Personal Desktop PC is Fry
The Desktop PC in the family room is Leela
My 12" iBook is Zoidberg
And my SSID is Planet Express

I was thinking of changing the names of my iPods to match the Futurama theme but iPornMini and JuicyFruit are just too cool.

i have a tendency to call my Powerbook Tiki, why you may ask? because my Tiki man shotglass is always next to it, i use it to hold my shuffle or jumpdrive and not to take shots, because its of the ~2.5 shot size..... so i just started calling my 'book Tiki

My iBook is named ono-sendai.

My last computer, a Pismo, is called treskjegg (Norwegian for Treebeard). I think it's a nice name for someone old, reliable and still quite powerful, but my girlfriend, who owns it now, dislikes the name, but not enough to bother finding out how to change it... ;)

G5 -> "the g5", "G5-ee" or "computer in the study"
Powerbook G3->"my laptop", "old laptop" or "slow laptop"
Powerbook G4-> "mum's comp"

Nice, and original :D

my powerbook's name is Disaster Area, because my files are about as well organized as a filing cabinet hit with a bomb.

My computer is called "Powerbook" funnily enough. It seems to fit its description. Well, if only it were a little less book and a little more Power!
