Okay, so this is no amazing prediction with the current promotion ending September 30th, but there has to be new flat screens out in October. Presumably, Apple is depleting the inventory of current displays with the discounts.

Not that anyone here gives a rat's arse about displays (everyone is obessesed with processor speed), but here is what I'm hoping/predicting:

23" widescreen: ?
22" widescreen: $1999
19" widescreen: $1499
17" widescreen: $899

Anyone have any insight? I know their displays are made by Samsung, and Samsung is ramping up production bigtime. They have to get so much cheaper pretty soon.

Yes, Apple Flat-panels are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! They have to come down some. Here's the prices I'd like to see them at:

23": $2049
22": $1799
19": $1299
17": $799
15": $399

IMHO, with the 15" starting at just $399, you shouldn't have to pay more than $250 more per inch. The above chart shows this very clearly. I think these are reasonable prices. :)

It's all about supply and demand baby.

To me, the holy grail is a 19"LCD for under a grand. Until that happens, I'll keep my trusty 21" Sony trinitron--five years old and going strong.

I think what'd be really cool is if they went widescreen across the board and beefed up the resolution, taking cues from the TiBook and 17" iMac displays.

15" studio display
Now: 1024 x 768
TiBook: 1280 x 854

17" studio display
Now: 1280 x 1024
iMac: 1440 x 900

It be nice if Apple had screen sizes in between the current ones, like this:

23": $2049
22": $1799
21": $1649
20": $1400
19": $1299
18": $1149
17": $799
16": $649
15": $399

Consumers would then have an even wider price range to choose from. Two thumbs up!

I, personally, really wish they would bring out another CRT screen. Like 21". I still have my 17" Studio display. It's SOOOOO nice. It's SUPER bright, vivid and sharp. Nobody makes a monitor even close to it.

LCD's are super nice and sexy, but are crap for designers.

edit: Unless you're using Quark. Then it doesn't really matter because everything looks like crap anyways, and there's no such thing as color matching.

But that's just me. ;)

Never in a million years! Production costs would be to high making so many different sizes.

you can sort of get a cheaper price with educational discount. They will probably come out with new screens sooner or later but the price will stay the same for quite awhile

Is it only me that thinks the current lineup of displays have an -awful- stand system?

These monitors should have (and boy have I been waiting) detachable stands and other mounting options (monitor arms) for wall mounting etc

The current displays are not exactly ergonomic if standing on the same desk surface as your keyboard.

By then:

No more 15" (or real cheap)
17" - $500-700
19" - $900-1200
22 - $2000 or less (if not gone)
23 - $2500
24+ ?

Hopefully prices for the components will keep going down.

I still use CRT, but LCD's would be nice.

It may be later

Those new displays may come later than October 1st.

The same promo is running in the Dutch apple store, but over here it runs until October 31st.

Oddly enough, the higher you climb in Apple monitors, the better the pricing (vs the competition).

I've seen the Samsung version of the Cinema and the Cinema HD gor for well over $700 more than their Apple counterparts.

Before trying to disprove me, rememeber that 1900 x 1200 != 1600 x 1200.

It's not that people don't care about displays, its just they are so damn expensive.
I love LCD displays, but until they are cheaper they are just out of my personal and most people's price range.

I still have my Blue 17" Apple Studio Display CRT that came with my B&W Yosemite and its picture is still Beeeeuuuuutiful. I don't forsee me getting rid of it anytime soon.

I really want a 22" inch cinema but it's expensive and will wait until the new 19" comes out. I hope before the end of the year. If there is that new 19 then price of the 22 will hopefully come down to 1499.

19" iMAC?

What do you guys think of a widescreen 19" iMac coming out in Spring of next year? I would love to own this baby! Watching DVD movies on this thing would be great and my only means of seeing American pop culture (I don't have a TV).

I completely agree- the 17 Studio is sweet! I wish they would bring it back at a discounted price, like $299 or so. Anyways, I see the 23" replacing the 22" and eventually taking on its price. I also think that Apple is going to drop the 15" and replace it with the current 17" and add a 19". Ideal pricing would be:

17" Widescreen (re-engineered similar to iMac): $599-$799
19" Widescreen (all-new): $999-$1299
23" Cinema Display: $2499-$2999

Steve Jobs appears to like a slim product line (a good thing, IMHO) and while it is possible he might also keep the 15" around for some time, this is where I see things headed.

If you go to PriceWatch.com and look for a 23 inch screen you'll see quite a few below 3k. Quality is a different question. If anyone knows what they're talking about when it comes to tft/lcd's please chime in.

I plan on buying the 17" iMac within a few weeks (just gotta scrape up some more cash, almost there:) ) I don't think a 19" iMac would be a bad idea, just that it might run a bit expensive, possibly too much for the consumer line. It would be very nice to see, but we will have to wait a while, don't think its happenin anytime soon:)
