It sure do helps!

I was wondering if 16GB RAM would be enough for my needs or if I should order the MBA with 24GB RAM instead…

You saved me €230. ;)
I was thinking about maybe returning this for 24gb but yeah I am convinced 16gb will do just fine :)

I think macOS has great memory compression and ram usage isn't as bad as you might think because it tends to cache a lot. right now I am using about 12gb with only mail and a few safari tabs open but 3.4gb of it is cache so really its only using just over 8gb

I have the 24 GB and I still see memory compression and swap. It's just how macOS memory management works.

I know many people don’t care about swap/memory pressure, but I do care. For my needs, as long as it’s 95% of the time in the green and using swap only in emergency, then it's fine.

And so far, 16GB RAM seems to be enough for my needs.

No way your going on a plane with a 16 MBP.
Sure I am, in biz or first class like right this moment. I do high end commercial photography and some video for full time work, the 16” M3 Max / 128GB does the heavy lifting and there is a 11” M2 iPad Pro as a backup.

I bought my wife the 13” M3 16/512 to replace the 2013 MBP 13” I handed down to her years ago, I really wanted her to have 1TB but we’ll see what she actually has on the 13 MBP when I get home later.

No one size fits all, that’s for sure.

This. I have a machine on my desk that never moves - I need something for on the go. IMO the 15" Air is the better machine for that than the 14 or 16 MBP. It just is, lighter, thinner, no fans etc. I honestly think the 15" MBA is the best machine Apple has ever made for portability with a large ish screen.
If you don’t need the power of an M3 Max with lots of ram and big storage yes. Many of us do however and it makes an enormous difference in productivity in dealing graphics intensive projects on the road that weigh 500GB to 1.5TB.

Seeing the first benefit of this - the 512 / 16 M3 13 inch is 1449 at Amazon right now. 50 bucks off. Just ordered :)
Good for you. I also assume that it is without tax, or?

I also ordered that config.

I checked Amazon in Sweden and they are actually charging significantly more than Apple do here. It was also with 8/512, so I stopped searching at that point. I also doubt that Amazon do trade-ins.

So I still feel good with my order from Apple, and awaiting its arrival very patiently - will probably take another week 😁

Correct. That was before tax.

The price is back up to the full 1499. It didn’t last long at 1449.

I brought the 16/512 M3 in Starlight home to my wife yesterday and she loves it, a nice birthday present for sure. Now we can clean up and retire the 2013 13" MacBook Pro which to be honest, if it were not for the failing coating on the screen and 81% from new battery capacity, she would have been perfectly fine in continuing to use it. I think they fetch like $125 bucks on eBay, lol.

For UK members interested, Amazon UK have got the MBA 13” M3 (starlight) with 16/512 for £1399, so £100 off RRP. Very good deal, im after the 15” version though, still waiting for discounts of those.

I already have the 15" 16/512 but have been curiously checking John Lewis/Costco.

Costco only has 8GB models so that's no good. John Lewis has the 16GB listed but it's out of stock and no discount. Keep checking Amazon and John Lewis :) If you're in no rush then I'm sure Apple will have refurbs in a few months.

Im not in a massive rush, but definitely getting the same model as you, probably in space grey once i can get it for £100 off RRP via Amazon/ John Lewis. I would even just get 16/256 if they had them in preconfig, but it has to be 16GB as plan to keep for at least 5+.
