newsd process writing GB's of data

Any idea why the newsd process which should be responsible for syncing Apple News favorite articles, etc. to iCloud would consume 84 GB of data written in a 24 hour period? This has happened on macOS 11.1 on my 2020 iMac 27" and my 2015 MBP 15".

Looks to be a very recent issue, that seems to be the only post on any forum about it and was dated a few days ago. After a reboot a few hours later no newsd process running at all, however I did not open News yet.

I'm livid about this. I thought the latest Mac update was going to fix this. It is still happening. Costing me money, and I'm a paid Apple News subscriber too.

I see this behavior as well. In addition, News consistently caches GBs of data on the hard disk. Seems completely ridiculous for such a basic application.

I'm not an Apple complainer typically, but this is class-action lawsuit territory. I have multiple Macs and through no fault of my own, am getting hammered on ISP overage charges.

I turned it off. Same issue persists. Killed the newsd process in Activity Manager. It eventually relaunched on its own. I purchased a program to hopefully block newsd and news from doing this, but of course that will make my news app, that I pay for, useless on my Macs.

I have just left News off in the iCloud settings and since then newsd has not reappeared. I don't use Apple News anyway so no need to worry about it syncing saved articles across my devices.

I quit News when I'm finished instead of just closing the window, and newsd has not written much of anything lately.

This would happen after a reboot and never opening News, its a process that was running in the background.

Im currently on Venture 13.6.3 and this is still going on, shocking really how theyve made this operate.
I figured out if you disable the iCloud News syncing in system settings it puts it out of operation, you lose source syncing but you can continue to use the news app without all the data caching.

If you monitor newsd in Activity Monitor under disk you can see it only uses data to the articles you navigate to.
I suspect this problem arises when you follow a lot of different sources within News app.
