No sounds coming from my speakers

I just went to play music from my iTunes on my MacBook Pro when i realized my speakers werent producing any sounds. It wont play through the internal speakers or through my stereo, externally. That inlcudes itunes, and system sounds as well as sounds from the various programs ive tried. The volume controls are all working fine as well. The sound menu still says im running on internal speakers and yet im getting nothing out of them. Anybody got any ideas?

Check your Audio Midi setup if the default output is set to built in ouput.
