Noob here: starting with iHome Smart POlug

Hello.

I have successfully configured iHome Smart Plug using my spare phone (iP 4S running 9.2).
Now I have installed the iHome Control app on my regular phone running 8.4.1 when I sign in to the iHome app it wants to go through initial config (and does not see the iHome device).

Am I doing something wrong (do I need to upgrade my 5S to iOS9?).
