When I’m on my Mac, I’m not getting notifications for new iMessages on the iPhone. Is this a result of using handoff? I get notifications on the iPhone without a problem if the Mac is asleep or off.

It pushes the notifications to the device it thinks you’re using.

I was thinking that this behavior was better than it used to be. In one of the prior versions of macOS if Messages was open, even in the background, it would mark the message as "read" and not notify me on my iPhone. Now, unless I'm actively using Messages on the Mac, I'll get a notification on my iPhone if I don't view it in macOS Messages.

What version of macOS are you using?
