Notes app upgrade question

I have iOS 9 beta installed on my iPhone 6, and it asks if I want to update my notes to the new format, I decided not to because all my macs are still using Yosemite. What would happen if I did decide to update to the new notes format in iOS 9 and then access my notes from OS X Yosemite. Would it not be able to read the new format?

I really want to try the new note features out.

The formatting isn't comparable with Yosemite so new notes wouldn't show as per the iCloud Drive last year.
