Notes widget wont display folder contents

I have this weird problem with the Notes widget. Same problem on IPhone and IPad, latest OS on both. The widget will not display contents of any folder (Notes, Quick Notes, or any folder I create). If I have the Widget display an individual note, that works. But not a folder. I also have the message that states IPadOS needs to be updated when attempting to edit a smart folder such as Quick notes, Anybody seen this?

I believe that that is Apple's intended use, as odd as it may seem to you.
