Hi all. I'm going to purchase a new 4th generation but wondering if 32gb will be enough or if anyone has actually run out of space on the 32gb version.

I've got a 64gb as I thought I'd actually be able to download things eventually, but the primary usage of my ATV is for streaming (Plex, Netflix, HBO, etc). I'm looking at my storage right now, and I've got maybe 200mb being used - total.

Oh wow. Thanks all for the feedback sounds like 32 will be fine for me. I do plan on downloading some games but not hundreds of them or anything

I bought a 64GB when they first launched and it seems to me that I wasted $50. I'm getting ready to pick up two more ATV4, and they will both be 32GB units.

I have the 64GB model, with a lot of apps on it, many more than I actually need (the majority of the apps on my AppleTV are ones that came along for the ride because I already had them on iOS - my AppleTV spends 95% of its time in Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Apple Music, The Bat Player, and TWiTtv, all streaming). I just checked, and I have perhaps 10 apps that are using nearly 200MB of storage each, and all told it's using 31GB of storage. But, if it were a 32GB model, the least recently used ones of those apps simply wouldn't have all their assets cached, and they'd reload when needed - and the most recently/often used would of course have everything cached, so you'd rarely notice.

I'd say that, unless you play hundreds of different games regularly that all use tons of assets, _and_ you can't bear a few seconds of loading time, then 32GB should be totally fine. 64GB won't really have a use unless/until Apple changes tvOS to keep more stuff on the device per app (e.g. if it kept tens of gigabytes of music or video on-board). Then again, who knows what changes to tvOS will be announced next week at WWDC? ;)

64GB is the future-proof option that guarantees your device will have room to grow for years to come. As always, cheap out now pay later
I'd generally agree with your sentiment, but in this case, I wonder if they'll add vital hardware changes before they come up with a use for the remaining memory. Still, I'm not devastated that I bought the 64GB model ;)

I'm completely fine with getting the 32GB. I have all entertainment apps installed (20 in total) and still have plenty of spce available.

All 4 of ours are 32 GB. We don't use them for games so didn't think the larger capacity ones were necessary.

Some people will run out of space and some won't. It will be determined by your individual use. Another persons use won't represent your own use.

COSTCO has the 64GB for $159. Bought one recently. About the same price as 32GB at Apple. If I had the 32gb model it would almost be full (using about 28gb). I think most could get away with 32gb model. However, Apple could reduce the restrictions on the use of the memory then 64gb could be small. My Live TV App has a buffer that is current 16gb. Not sure I could use it if I only had the 32gb version with everything else I have on it. But not sure. For me the COSTCO price makes it a no brainer to get the 64gb from them.

isn't the memory only for level downloads, or part of it is also used for caching movies/TV shows like on the 3rd gen ?

storage vs memory i know, but kinda same caching.

I have the 32GB version and since most of my usage is via streaming on the usual apps, YouTube, Netflix HBOGo and such, storage space is a non-issue for me.

I got the 64GB model at launch, but I`m nowhere near using that space, I wouldn`t be anywhere to use the space on a 32GB even with the apps that I use it for, I`m gonna get a 2nd one with 32GB now that I can get it cheap.
