NVMe with ST-NGFF2013-C; Vega Internal GPU; Mac Pro 2013 (6,1)

Has anyone had a problem updating with the 10.14.3 Supplemental update that dropped a few days ago to address the group Facetime bug?
I'm running my 6,1 with the Amfeltec board using a 970 Evo as my boot drive. When I updated from 10.14.2 to 10.14.3, it rendered my system unbootable...after a couple of reboots during installation, the final boot paused with the progress bar about 3/5 done and sat there while the cooling fan slowly ramped up to full speed.
I tried to reboot in Verbose mode, but the first screen displayed on reboot was the stalled progress bar.
Fortunately I had an external Carbon Copy Cloner backup on a drive in a Thunderbolt 2 dock. I booted from that, restored the internal drive, then ran the updater on the external drive. That booted fine, and I then ran CCC to copy it to my internal drive. Problem solved!
Can't make the 10.14.3 Supplemental update work, though. Installing to either my internal or external drive results in the same stalled boot process with full blast fans. Wondering if this is a problem with the Amfeltec board. I suppose I could take it out and try the original Apple SSD but that's a lot of trouble...

Not sure if this is related, but since the update to 10,14,13. I have been getting kernel panics usually after the computer wakes from sleep. Is there any kind samaritan that would take a look at the crash log and see if its related to the Samsung SSD?
Hi, I was looking for confirmation on the speeds that an SSD can have with this MP6.1 I am about to update mine with a 1TB and I don't want to buy an XPG (from Adata) for example if the 6.1 will only deliver 1500 and not 3000 mB/s
Do you know what the limit is with the SSD speeds for nVME boot drives?
If I recall correctly, the internal drive gets 4 lanes of pcie 2.0, which means each lane can transfer 500 mb/s, so a therotical limit of 2000 mb/s. Using Black Magic Speed tester withn a Samsung 960 Pro, I get a maximum transfer rate of between 1500 and 1700 mb/sec.
Don't buy a cheap blade because Mac Pro 6,1 can't use the full speed of a current PRO NVMe blade.
The difference between 970 PRO and a 970 EVO, for example, is size of cache, cell technology, endurance and warranty. 970 EVO will wave the write speed to the floor after the cache is full.
Most pro people wants write cache, endurance and warranty of a PRO blade, not the maximum speed.
You rarely need to use the maximum throughput, but the write cache/endurance you will use everyday.

BootROM updates can only be applied with the original Apple SSD installed into the PCIe connector on the GPU.

It might be a little off topic but I encountered that the last High Sierra updates / Mojave updates went wrong
(boot cycle and / or displayed message that the last update wasn't installed properly) as long as the Mac Pro is connected to a thunderbolt hub.
I always use the original apple drive for the updates.
As soon as I remove the hub, the Mac boots and finishes the installation. After that the Mac runs and boots just fine with the hub connected. Any ideas? Thank you, guys..

Apple released 10.14.4 final tonight, MP6,1 got the same 129.0.0.0.0 as the betas.

Of course, I put the original Apple drive in my nMP before doing the update to update the firmware to 129.0.0.0.0, which went fine. After the update, I put my 960 Pro back in the nMP and redid the update. Everything is fine.
I was half tempted to try the update without putting in the original Apple SSD just to see if it would update the firmware. Would it be possible for Apple to update the firmware so that firmware updates can be done with an NVMe installed, or is the firmware update linked to the controller on the Apple SSD?
