Previously only the newer iPad Pro models could run 3 apps simultaneously on screen with two split screened apps and one slide over app. Older iPad models with only 2 GB of ram used to freeze (and grey out) the two split screened apps when you summon a slide over app.

Now in iOS 12, old iPad models (like the iPad Pro 12.9” 2012, and iPad mini 4) can simultaneously run 3 apps.

Not that it couldn’t before, because in the first few betas of iOS 10, these older models were able to run 3 simultaneous apps at once, no problem, with no hit to battery life. It was a shame that Apple disabled this later on, I’m glad it’s back though... hopefully this isn’t a bug.

That’s cool. Not all apps are created equal though so I wonder what it’ll do if you have a large Ninox database split with a complex Vectornator document and play a 4K video in slideover, given there’s no VMM?

I’m sure there are much more RAM heavy scenarios than that too.
