Anyone else experiencing odd behaviour with optimized battery charging? For several weeks now my iPhone hasn’t been fully charged in the morning when I get up (same time as always when my alarm is set). It’s only ever charged up to somewhere between 93-96%. I finally gave up and turned the feature off as it doesn’t seem to be working properly anymore.

I've noticed something similar. Optimized Battery Charging worked well for me ever since Apple introduced it. However, recently my XR is only charged to 80% when I get up in the morning. It used to be at 100%. I always get up at the same time: between 4:00 and 4:30 AM. It's annoying to have to leave it charging; especially when I'm going to need to use it right away.

I guess it does that as the battery wears down
The XR is less than a year old and is at 99% of maximum capacity and "Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance."

Actually, Coconut Battery says that the battery's current capacity is 2947 mAh while the design capacity is 2942 mAh. So, still above design capacity. (I'm not sure I really believe that, though.)

I don't think that the battery charging anomaly can be blamed on the battery condition.

My iPhone X battery is showing 82% capacity and the service battery notification just started to appear even though it says I have peak performance and have never had the phone shut down. Optimized battery charging still works normally so I agree that battery condition doesn't seem to make a difference.

My 12 Pro Max often stops at 80% but after a few hours continues to charge to 100%.
Only a few hours? That sounds odd. I put my phone on the charger around 9pm and at 10:30pm or so it says it will complete charging at 6:30am. It stays at 80% until around 5:30am then charges the rest of the way. At least that's what my battery graph is showing..

This morning I got up just before 4:30 AM and, surprise, my iPhone was charged to 100% for the first time in a while. I guess Apple decided that it was OK for me to be up and about that early and no longer wants me to wait until 5:55 AM to start using my phone.

Mine barely if ever worked in iOS 13 and then in iOS 14 it works flawlessly unless I do something completely out of the normal, for the most part it works flawlessly everyday now.

I have a new iPhone 12 and I never saw this delay on my iPhone 10. It was at 80% when I went to bed at 10 and wasn't fully charged till 4:30. What is the use of buying the 20W charging cube and the usb-C cord if it is going to be so slow?

Mine usually finishes that last 80-100 percent section around a hour before I first grab it each day.

I'd recommend keeping the feature on. The more you use it, it should get better at knowing your schedule. Occasionally picking it up at 95 percent isn't the end of the world, but having it sit there at 100/99 percent for 8 hours connected is what Apple is trying to prevent (and what will happen with the feature turned of).

Unless you're going on a trip or some other odd thing in your schedule, then you could turn you can turn the feature off temporarily.
