Optus or Telstra? (AUS)

I want an iphone but the only reason i was going to get a telstra plan was so that i could maybe get a cheaper data plan but that isnt going to happen as it is the same as my current prepaid browsing. So do you think i should get a Telstra one anyway or alot of my friends are with optus so i could get a cheap plan with them for free optus to optus, unlock the new iphone and stick in telstra next g sim and get another cheap phone for the optus sim. What do you think?
