I had to search for a video file that I need in a editing project. How can I find what the parent folder is?

eh? (I'm not sure why you have asked that question)
I assume that you found your video file, so the parent folder is the one where your file is stored.
If you Get Info on your video file, it will show the path up from the file, next to Where: Last item in the path is the parent folder.
There's no standard way to find out what the parent folder might be, before finding the file that you are looking for, unless it is a common folder that you might use for all your video files.

If you do a spotlight search for a file (command + backspace) you'll get:

hold down the command key and the complete path will show underneath the file details - the picture in this case.

Even simpler is to turn on the "Show Path Bar" option in Finder/View options when you do a search from within the Finder:

If you can select or click on the file, just type CMD + I. Or enable "show path bar" under Finder > View and this will give you a map of every open window.
